My areas of general research expertise include: lignin isolation and analysis; mechanisms of lignocellulosic processing; enzyme application in wood chemistry; plant biopolymer separation characterization; biorefinery, Pulping and bleaching chemistry; catalysis of pulp delignification; lignin oxidation – Laccase-Mediator system; kinetic studies - Oxidative ammonolysis of technical lignins; delignification efficiency and residual lignin structure. My specific research involvement for this NSF project is related to structure, Composition and Linkages of P. trichocarpa Lignin, and quantitation of total lignin and inter-unit linkages in lignin and lignin-carbohydrate complexes.
