Disease Gene Mapping in Dogs

Dogs are prone to many diseases that also affect humans. As they also encounter many of the same environmental influences humans do, dogs are an excellent genetic model for human diseases. Below is a piece of an American Staffordshire terrier pedigree collected by Natasha Olby's group in which we successfully identified a gene causing spinocerebellar ataxia.
