Why a new Cluster?

The NCSU HPC Center has a big cluster. Why did we set up another one?

  • Large memory nodes.
    • HPC is 2GB-4GB per core.
    • We have 8GB per core on the standard compute nodes.
    • Some nodes with more.
  • No disk quotas or job time limits.
    • Allow users to grab whole nodes if they need to.
  • Management flexibility:
    • Installing new software.
    • Allowing non-NCSU users easily.
  • For use by the BCSC.

Note: We have 400 cores in the HPC brc queue to which members of the BRC can get priority access. You might want to consider using those if the BRC cluster is full. http://hpc.ncsu.edu
