Why a new Cluster?

The NCSU HPC Center has a big cluster. Why did we set up another one?

  • Large memory nodes.
    • HPC is 2GB-4GB per core.
    • We have 8GB per core on the standard compute nodes.
    • Some nodes with more.
  • No disk quotas or job time limits.
    • Allow users to grab whole nodes if they need to.
  • Management flexibility:
    • Installing new software.
    • Allowing non-NCSU users easily.
  • For use by the BCSC.
We have 400 cores in the HPC **brc** queue to which members of the BRC can get priority access. You might want to consider using those if the BRC cluster is full.
